Delaware Women Veterans Symposium II & Expo was held this year on April 26, 2008
8:30 am - 4:00 pm
at The
Delaware Technical & Community College
Terry Campus - Corporate Training Center.


The special guest luncheon speaker was Ms. Marsha Four, RN, a Vietnam in-country veteran who served on active duty with the Army Nurse Corps from 1967-1970.
Each participant was offered the opportunity to choose four of seven different workshops being offer before and after lunch.
IWomen Veterans Benefits & Beyond
workshop offered information about federal and state benefits such as disability compensation, veterans pension, vocational rehabilitation, medical care, survivors benefits, and much more.

Mental Wellness - Strategies for Reducing Stress
This workshop introduced holistic approaches to reducing stress of everyday living. Participants experienced the calmness and well being learned from Tai Chi movements. They also learn how to use thier senses to tap into your mind-body healing connection. Instructor - Ms. Angela Hoag, LCSW, Vet Center
Women Veterans Health Services & Related Issues
The morning workshop presented by Dr. Kathleen McNicholas, Associate Chief of Cardiac Surgery, Christiana Care Health System was on "Women and Heart Disease". The afternoon workshop focused on primary health care, gender specific health care, reproductive health services, cancer, and behavioral health services. Includes benefits unique to OIF/OEF veterans. Strategic Ways to Get Out of Debt
In the workshop participants learned ways to get out of debt and how to accelerate debt reduction. Also taught in this workshop were ways of budgeting to get out of debt as well as creating an overall plan to get out of debt. Instructor - Mr. Rod Hausmann, Delaware Money School
Finding the Secrets in the 5X Mirror "Knowing Yourself"
This workshop is designed to teach participants about their behavioral style and how the good and not so good affect others. By understanding themselves participants can improve their effectiveness in dealing with others. The workshop goal was to teach participants to understand, respect, appreciate, and value individual differences. Instructor - Ms. Linda Boone, LJ Boone & Associates
Building Relationships & Empowerment
Participants were taught the basic steps to becoming more assertive, the 10 signs of a healthy relationship, setting goals, and the ABC's of Daily Motivation. Instructors - Ms. Sarmite Tyus, MBA, LCSW & Ms. Annie Spackman, LCSW, VA Medical Center
Wills & Estate Planning
This workshop explained the importance of wills, tips on what should be included in a will, and the criteria for making a valid will. This class helped to plan for the future and assisted with exploring the creation of a will and an estate plan. Instructor - Ms. Diane Clarke Streett, New Castle County Register of Wills
